Over twenty five years ago chemical and plastics corporations in Europe decided to unify common chemical pallet sizes for the transport of chemicals and polymers.
Over the years many industries have adopted chemical pallets which are meant to be exchangeable and have common standards. In Europe, companies can receive a deposit back from their local pallet company for chemical pallets that they no longer need.
Some users refer to chemical pallets as CPs or CP Pallets. Chemical pallets come in nine different design types and sizes.
In the United States and Canada the chemical pallet types 1 and 3 are the most widely used. Other less common chemical pallet types found in North America include the CP 6, as well as the CP 9, and CP 8. The other chemical pallet designs are rarely if ever seen in the Americas.
CP pallets generally correspond to a certain type of packaging and handling such as racked vs. floor stacked, and single stacked vs. multiple loaded units stacked atop each other. American chemical companies usually move their products in four primary types of packaging: drums — both steel and plastic, supersacks, boxes, and bags.
Chemical Pallet 1 and Chemical Pallet 6 are pallets primarily used with sacks and boxes.
Chemical Pallet 2 was designed to replace the euro pallet. This pallet is sometimes used in North America in place of the euro pallet.
Chemical Pallet 3 and Chemical Pallet 9 are primarily used for drums and supersacks.
Chemical Pallet 8 is used solely for supersacks.
