Virtual Assistant Marketing Needs Persistence
I want to give you as many Virtual Assistant marketing themes as possible while also saving you from scams and additional varieties of bad marketing which will do your business more harm than good.
One form of marketing is much easier than all the rest but it seems the forgotten art where marketing is concerned.
It is called the Persistence Factor
The rules of this method of marketing are simple and you do one a day for the 5 days of the working week.
* Monday could be the day you contact a couple of clients who you have not worked with for a while to see how they and their businesses are. Just a polite enquiry is enough to remind them that you are still there and it is amazing how often that turns into work.
* On Tuesday send that interesting article you cut out of a magazine to any relevant clients with a note that you hope that it is useful
* Any day is networking day if you have a meeting you can go to. Take business cards and LISTEN to what other business people have to say. Before you leave the car park, make a note on the back of the cards as to who you spoke to and what they do. Contact them the following week on your making contact day.
* Thursday may be the day you dedicate to long standing clients. Make sure that any work you are doing is fine by them. Give them a call and if they are happy, well now is the time to ask for a testimonial. If you are short of work you could also ask if there is anything further you can do to help.
* Friday is keeping track of marketing day. If you do not make notes in your diary or Outlook regarding who you have phoned/contacted and what the outcome was you will soon get lost.
You will see that you have made contact with many businesses, mainly while you were sitting at your desk. It took you only about half an hour a day and it may even have generated work the first week you did this. But we have not finished with the Persistence factor yet.
Do this on a weekly basis – week in and week out
Just think of the affect this will have if you do it week in and week out. Vary the marketing ploys you use, write articles and submit them, go to that Chamber of Commerce lunch you were always going to go to. The more you do the more likelihood there is of work coming your way. The idea is you do this 48 weeks a year even if you are busy. Make it a habit.
What about the rest of the world?
I intend to give you extra ideas to put into this mix. You can do these instead of your normal half hour daily marketing BUT you will get to reach a whole new group of people.
You can also get to know other VAs who may live on anther continent from you and occasionally you may get work passed to you from them. This has happened to me and I have passed work on to others. You can add 10 minutes a day on forums as a good marketing experience. I probably spend more than that.
So back to stage one. Get out that diary or Outlook and write down your marketing task for every day next week. Make sure it is something you are going to enjoy. If you don’t like cold calling – don’t do it. I hate it.
The habit of doing something every day at the same time is something that many famous writers and artists have done. If you do not make your advertising a habit you will not do it, there will always be something else to do.
