Virtual Assistants to the SME “Holiday Cover” Rescue
Many small business owners look upon holidays with horror. How much business will they lose, what happens if a client needs support while they are away? The fact that a holiday will refresh them and help not only them but their business is something that is forgotten.
Many VA’s offer holiday cover. We have always called ours ‘Business Babysitting. This was coined by one of our clients when she came back to a safe well organised office and no problems.
How is your business safeguarded
Virtual Assistants are the admin specialists. Running their own businesses they know what a business owner needs and most pass their business over to other VA’s when they go on holiday. You will get your phone answered, messages forwarded, e-mails sorted and nothing will be missed and all your clients will be happy on your return.
So how do we set up this type of business cover?
* A weekly standing charge for the duration of the holiday (a week being any 7 day period) if you are expected to be in the office at all times to take their calls
* A per item charge if there is no telephone answering to cope with but just other administrative tasks.
* Ancillary charges should be agreed with the client before the holiday starts and charged at cost. These items are such things as postage, phone calls, large print runs or mailings.
How would a Virtual Assistant let their clients know they offer this service? Well with Internet printers offering 250 business cards for postage, it is easy enough to order a short run specifically for this type of project. Have a calendar put on the back – this means the card will be kept for longer as small calendars are always worth keeping. Starting well before the holiday season begins, send or give them to your clients and new contacts explaining what you do.
Once you have launched this service you will be amazed at how clients remember you each time they are going away. Details will be passed on to businesses who need daytime cover and you may find yourself doing this full time and not just over the holidays.
Small Business Owners are always worried about being away from their ‘Baby’. It is their livelihood. If you can offer them a flexible and comprehensive service you will be doing both businesses a favour. Enjoy your ‘Virtual Assistant Business Babysitting’ service.
